Local backups: keeping your personal records safe

Practical steps to prepare, store and check local backups of personal records while keeping control over where files are saved.

Local storage is not the same as a backup

Local-first software can store records on your own device without sending their contents to the developer’s servers. That reduces some dependencies, but it cannot prevent a lost, damaged or replaced phone from taking its only copy of data with it.

A backup is a separate copy worth keeping. CicloAura offers optional backups that you choose to create and store.

A simple continuity checklist

Before replacing a device or clearing data, create a backup using the option provided in the app. Check that the file reached the intended location and that you can distinguish it from older copies.

Where practical, keep another copy outside the original device. If you use third-party storage, its privacy, retention and security policies also matter.

The destination matters

A local file is not automatically encrypted or unreadable by others. Real protection depends on the file format, the device, storage location and safeguards you apply.

Use secure device access, avoid sharing sensitive backup files and consider storage encryption you control. We do not claim protections that have not been independently verified.

Check recovery before an emergency

A backup is helpful only when you can find and use it. Understand the available restore process and keep a clear naming routine so you know which copy is current.

Do not erase original records before confirming successful restoration. Privacy by architecture includes helping people understand the limits of the software they use.
